Amityville residents will soon have the chance to sound off about whether their “Warrior” name should be changed.

The school district is hosting a community forum next Wednesday about the name and slogan.

That will be just nine days before a decision must be made about whether to ditch the name.

It comes after the state voted unanimously in April to ban schools from using Native American mascots. Schools that don’t comply could lose funding.

The forum is set for 7 p.m. on June 21 at Park Avenue Memorial Elementary School. The district says a decision will not be made that night.
