Amityville man sentenced to at least 20 years in prison for shooting at officer

Jayvon Bell, 21, pleaded guilty to attempted murder in February for shooting at officers in North Amityville while trying to avoid arrest in June.

An Amityville man was sentenced Thursday to 20 years to life in prison for attempting to shoot and kill a police officer.

Jayvon Bell, 21, pleaded guilty to attempted murder in February for shooting at officers in North Amityville while trying to avoid arrest in June.

Bell was wanted for robbing a taxi driver.

Prosecutors say he also flashed a gun at a gas station cashier after refusing to pay for a soda.
