An Amityville man was sentenced Monday to 15 years to life in prison for killing his girlfriend's godson.
Jonathan Thompson admitted to repeatedly hitting 4-year-old Adonis Reed in January in his Amityville home because the child wouldn't take a nap.
Reed was rushed from to the hospital, where he later died of his injuries. The prosecutor said Adonis had received "77 impacts" to his body the day he died.
Last month, Thompson pleaded guilty to second-degree murder.
In court, Reed's family called Thompson a "monster" and said an apology offered by Thompson "doesn't cut it."
