An Amityville family is looking for answers after a birthday party shooting on Saturday left one member dead.
Police believe 14-year-old Danielle Baker was killed after members of a neighborhood gang were asked to leave the party. Witnesses say Baker was dancing when she was shot, and she then died in her younger sister Ashley?s arms. Friends describe Danielle, an A student Copiague Middle School and cheerleading captain, as a child on the path to a bright future.
Activists say the shooting draws attention to local gangs that do not have national recognition. They say these neighborhood gangs are just as violent as any other gang. Suffolk police are asking anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
