One man is under arrest and another is on the run after they tried to get away in a Rockville Centre chase by ramming a police car.
Police say the action started when a woman called police Thursday around 4:30 a.m., reporting there was a strange man in her backyard. When police arrived at the scene, they didn?t see the man but spotted a suspicious vehicle with its lights off. They tried to pull it over, but say the driver sped off.
The driver, 37-year-old Brian Frazier, of Queens, stopped the car at one point and the passenger jumped out. Officials say Frazier sped up again until he came to a police car. He smashed into it with his car, jumped out and tried to escape on Peninsula Boulevard, but was caught.
Police believe Frazier and his passenger are responsible for the theft of personal property from cars in Rockville Centre.
