Alert scam: Fraudulent texts from NY Dept. of Revenue ask for bank info. Here's what to do.
Have you received a suspicious text from someone claiming to be the New York Department of Revenue? The Department of Taxation and Finance says this is the latest scam affecting New York State taxpayers. The suspicious messages ask for payment information supposedly so revenue agencies can deposit income tax refund money into a bank account. The department says that if you receive one of these messages, block the sender, delete the message, and report this scam to the Tax Department or IRS.
