Some Long Islanders say they are happy that a criminal complaint has been filed against former Gov. Andrew Cuomo.
"I just don't like him," one resident says. "I don't like bullies."
Keith Scott, executive director of Safe Center Long Island, says more importantly, he hopes survivors hear this and feel like they are finally being heard.
"The hope is that this sets a precedent--especially for everyone in office," Scott says. "How many times have we seen powerful people be accused of something and nothing happens?"
Senate Republican leader Robert Ortt says the official charge is a "crucial step closer toward accountability."
He says none of it would be possible without the brave women who stood up to a "powerful and vindictive political figure."
A spokesperson for the former governor released a statement saying in part, "'Accidentally' filing a criminal charge without notification and consent of the prosecuting body doesn't pass the laugh test and this process reeks of Albany politics and perhaps worse."
Albany City Court ordered an officials summons for Cuomo to appear on Nov. 17 at 2:30 p.m.
