Nassau County is rolling out a new emergency smartphone app for school district officials that will alert police in the event of an active shooter.
Once the "active shooter" icon is pressed on the app, a 911 call is initiated, text alerts are sent to police, the school alarm is triggered and local police will have access to live cameras inside the school.
The app was introduced in Mineola Tuesday morning.
