Not even record-high gas prices and airfares are slowing down holiday getaway plans for millions of Americans.

AAA-Northeast says the great American road trip is on this July 4 holiday for 48 million travelers. AAA says those drivers will travel 50 miles or more next month. That is almost 4% more than last year.

“Despite the historically high price of gas, people continue to travel. We like to think about it as revenge travel, that’s the hot buzz word in travel. People are sick of hunkering down,” said Frank Mako of AAA-Northeast.

A spokesperson for AAA says this year's summer travel numbers are a sign people are ready for a break.

Connecticut residents News 12 spoke with say they're not happy with the price of gas, but "it is what it is."

Some of those residents plan on heading up to Quebec and Niagara Falls for the upcoming holiday.
