Officials say $9,000 worth of was alcohol stolen after a 'fake-out' at a Freeport liquor store.
A man reportedly walked into Crosstown Wine and Liquor on South Main Street around 10:30 a.m. yesterday. The store owner tells Newsday the man said he'd gotten married earlier in the day and was picking out 60-70 expensive bottles.
An employee helped load the alcohol into a U-Haul truck while the store owner made sure the credit transaction went through. When the money wasn't there, the owner tried to stop the man who sped away in the truck.
Detectives later found the truck empty. So far, no arrests have been made.
