The grandmother, identified by officials as Gina Bente, 63, saw her car going down the driveway and attempted to get in the car to stop it.

The driver's side door struck Bente and she fell to the ground, striking her head on the pavement, officials said.

The car continued into the middle of the road before it hit a curb and stopped.

Bente was taken to the hospital in serious condition.

The child was not injured.

Suffolk County police said there's no indication that there was any kind of intent and the case was closed without criminal charges.
