3 NYPD vehicles in Bushwick lot had fire starters in them, mayor says

Multiple NYPD vehicles were damaged in a fire early Thursday morning in a parking lot on DeKalb Avenue near Central Avenue, Mayor Eric Adams said.
Adams said 11 cars were damaged in the fire and that three other cars in the lot had fire starters in them. The mayor also called the person or people responsible cowards to intentionally burn property. Adams described some of the vehicles as torched.
Police tell News 12 that they are investigating the fire as possible arson. News 12 witnessed detectives place evidence markers on what is believed to be the fire starters place on tires of the undamaged vehicles.
The fire started around 1:30 a.m., according to city officials. Cellphone video taken by a resident shows flames coming from the lot.
Firefighters responded and were able to put the flames out. No one was hurt.
On Thursday morning, crews were still at the scene, and charred cars could be seen through the lot’s gate. Multiple agencies were on scene, including the FDNY and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
“It is definitely concerning. And I think it sort of speaks to the increasingly tense times that we live in… I hope we can avoid violent chaos," said Chuck Rawlings, who lives in the area.
At this time, no arrests have been made.
Authorities are asking anyone with information or video to come forward.
