6 arrested as police, Homeland Security carry out Suffolk raids
Hours after President Donald Trump visited Long Island and vowed to eradicate violent street gangs, Suffolk police and Homeland Security carried out raids targeting MS-13, leading to six arrests.
Police say the arrests were made during raids at four bars and restaurants in Huntington Station that were targeted for alleged gang activity and other illegal activity.
Among the establishments raided were El Triunfo Taverna, Safiro Bar, and La Perfecta Bar and Restaurant. Authorities say they also discovered an illegal gambling operation in the basement of the Santa Rosa Restaurant.
Suffolk police confirm they arrested six men and issued summonses to three others for multiple violations. One man was taken into custody after it was discovered he had been deported from the country on two previous occasions, officials say.
Just hours before the raids, President Trump spoke about gangs to law enforcement officers at Suffolk County Community College's Brentwood campus. He reiterated his support for police officers while also issuing a stern warning to gang members, saying, "I have a simple message for every gang member, and criminal alien that are threatening so violently, our people: We will find you, we will arrest you, we will jail you and we will deport you."
Police say several of the restaurants that were raided also received citations for fire and building code violations.
