Forty-eight dogs and puppies are now safe in Port Washington after being rescued from commercial breeding facilities in the Midwest.
North Shore Animal League America’s rescue team returned with the canines from Missouri on Sunday morning. The nonprofit partnered with its long‑time collaborator, National Mill Dog Rescue, for the effort.
The organization is now focused on giving the dogs the care they need.
“They’ll get the necessary medical treatment and training treatment and socialization and get cleaned up and have spa days and just be pampered pooches,” said Ted Moriates, rescue team lead for North Shore Animal League America.
North Shore Animal League America transported or helped nearly 4,000 animals in 2025. The nonprofit says the most recent group of pups will be available for adoption in the coming days and weeks.
