Three no-so-little pigs that escaped from a trailer Friday morning on Sunrise Highway were rescued by Suffolk police.
According to police, 5th Precinct Sgt. Theodore Martinez was driving a marked police vehicle eastbound on Sunrise Highway near Broadway Avenue in Sayville when he observed what he thought was a pig on the side of the road.
He then saw a Hummer with an attached trailer that was open with one pig inside.
The operator of the vehicle says she was transporting four pigs to an animal rescue and was unaware that the three pigs had escaped.
More officers from the 5th Precinct responded along with employees from the Sayville Animal Hospital and Town of Islip employees to locate and chorale the pigs.
Police say they appeared to be uninjured and were taken to the Evelyn Alexander Wildlife Rescue Center in East Quogue, the original destination, for an evaluation.
