A man is fighting for his life after he was shot multiple times Wednesday.
Bridgeport police say officers responded to shots fired in the area of Reservoir Avenue and Alba Avenue around 1 p.m.
When they arrived, Detective Jeffrey Holtz says officers found a 20-year-old man on the ground suffering from multiple gunshots wounds.
Police believe the victim was the target of a drive-by shooting, possibly involving a vehicle that was carjacked in the city earlier in the day.
"We do have a vehicle description," Holtz says. "A be on the lookout (BOLO) has been put out to Bridgeport officers, and to officers and detectives in surrounding towns."
Holtz says the man was transported to St Vincent's Medical Center for emergency surgery and is in critical condition.
It's the second reported shooting on heavily traveled Reservoir Avenue in the last week.
Holtz say officers are focusing hard on the area and asking for the community's assistance.
"We're hoping for arrests, that's our ultimate goal," Holtz says, "So that the people that were injured in these shootings, and their families receive justice... and that these dangerous persons are taken off the street."
