Police say 30-year-old Siobhan Lynch was struck and killed by a New York City Department of Sanitation truck after attempting to cross the street between Cropsey Ave. and Bay Parkway on Wednesday.
According to investigators, a 41-year-old man was behind the wheel of the city truck attempting to make a turn onto Bay Parkway at around 6:30p.m. when he collided with the victim.
Lynch was found with severe injuries throughout her body when police arrived. She was rushed to NYU Langone Health-Brooklyn, where she was pronounced dead.
The intersection between Cropsey Ave. and Bay Parkway was previously noted by the city as one of their dangerous streets, with city data showing four people were killed in crash accidents between 2021 to 2025.
As of this year, there’s been a total of 11 injuries along the same intersection.
On Oct. 6th the mayor announced construction along the Cropsey Ave. as part of the Next Stop: Fast Buses, Better Service project. With a goal to make public transportation quicker and streets safer for neighbors.
Community members say the construction from the bus lane project has only worsened already dangerous conditions.
“The light is broke every week when it rains from the the speed cameras they put up with the the construction that messed up all the lighting. This is every other day, there’s an accident on this corner,” said one neighbor, Dominic.
Police say the driver remained at the scene and is not facing any charges as the investigation continues.
