New details have emerged in the felony assault case against a Hyde Park school board member accused of attacking someone at the Culinary Institute of America.

According to the Dutchess County District Attorney’s Office, Cheryl Frazier-Woods, 62, is accused of intentionally striking the victim in the mouth area with a metal beverage thermos, causing substantial pain and injury.

Frazier-Woods was arrested Oct. 12 in connection with the incident at the well-known culinary college in Hyde Park.

She was arraigned Thursday, Oct. 22, in Hyde Park Town Court on a felony charge of second-degree assault. Her next court appearance is scheduled for Nov. 19.

In an Oct. 20 letter to district families, Hyde Park Board of Education President Michael Zagorski acknowledged the arrest and expressed concern about the allegations.

Zagorski said the board was reviewing whether Frazier-Woods could continue fulfilling her responsibilities as a school board trustee while the criminal case proceeds.

News 12 has reached out to the Board of Education and school district to ask whether a decision has been made regarding her continued service.

We are awaiting a response.
