Students and staff were evacuated from St. Luke's School in New Canaan as emergency crews responded to a freon leak on campus Thursday.
The New Canaan Fire Department and emergency management officials responded to the school just before 8:30 a.m. and evacuated the building as a precaution.
Police and the Fairfield County Hazmat team also responded. The team provided technical assistance and firefighters entered the building wearing personal protective equipment and self-contained breathing apparatus to use meters to monitor the air.
Officials located the leak in the ceiling of a classroom, found no hazardous readings and ventilated the area.
Firefighters determined the leaking product was freon and the HVAC unit was then turned off and the leak mitigated.
No one was injured.
