Friends, family and Knicks fans came together Saturday in Bushwick for a special street co-naming ceremony to honor Brooklyn native and Knicks guard Jose Alvarado.
Knickerbocker Avenue was temporarily co-named Alvarado Avenue in celebration of the hometown star and his journey from Brooklyn to becoming an NBA champion.
Fans at the ceremony said they were proud to see one of their own — a Boricua from Brooklyn — make it to the NBA and help bring a championship back to New York.
The celebration was an emotional one for Alvarado and his family. His father told News 12 he was nearly speechless taking in the moment, as both father and son fought back tears surrounded by the community that came out to support them.
