A deer that had a pole stuck in its antlers has been rescued in Midland Park, bringing relief to residents who had been trying to get help for the animal.

Midland Park police say conservation officers located the deer Tuesday and safely tranquilized it.

Officials were then able to remove the object that had become lodged in the animal's antlers.

The rescue sparked celebration on social media, where residents of the Bergen County community had been sharing concerns about the deer and working to draw attention to its situation.

Animal control officials in Bergen County say situations like this happen more often than many people realize. Wild animals can become tangled in sports netting, holiday decorations, hammocks and fences. Officials say anyone who spots an animal trapped in that way should contact animal control for assistance.
