North Jersey Coast Line suspended again due to downed trees

NJ Transit has again suspended North Jersey Coast Line service in both directions between Aberdeen-Matawan and Long Branch because of downed trees across the tracks.
The latest suspension comes after service resumed earlier Sunday following a separate disruption caused by multiple downed trees. NJ Transit says rail tickets and passes are being cross-honored on its buses.
Riders should check NJ Transit for the latest service information.
Ground stop issued for departures from Newark Liberty due to wind

The FAA issued a ground stop Sunday afternoon for flights departing Newark Liberty International Airport because of strong winds.
The ground stop began at 12:54 p.m. and is currently scheduled to remain in effect until 2:15 p.m. The FAA lists a 30% to 60% chance that it could be extended.
The FAA had already identified wind as a constraint for New York-area airports and warned that additional traffic-management measures were possible Sunday.
Floodwaters inundate Manahawkin streets as residents await next high tide

A lull in the nor'easter brought some sunshine to Manahawkin on Sunday, but significant flooding continued to impact residents.
East Bay Avenue was flooded, with water reaching garages and vehicles. Debris was also seen floating through the neighborhood, including a refrigerator.
Some residents said the flooding was the highest they had seen in the area since Superstorm Sandy in 2012.
Residents were hopeful water levels would begin to recede after the first high tide of the day passed, but another high tide remained a concern as the storm continued to impact the area.
North Jersey Coast Line service resumes with delays

NJ Transit says North Jersey Coast Line rail service has resumed in both directions between Aberdeen-Matawan and Bay Head after multiple downed trees blocked the tracks Sunday.
Riders should expect delays of up to 45 minutes as service recovers.
NJ Transit is advising customers to check its app or website for real-time service information before traveling.
Ringo Starr concert at PNC Bank Arts Center canceled due to severe weather

Ringo Starr's concert scheduled for Sunday at the PNC Bank Arts Center has been canceled because of severe weather, according to the venue.
Fans who purchased tickets through Ticketmaster will automatically receive refunds and do not need to take further action.
Those who bought tickets through third-party resellers, including StubHub, SeatGeek or Vivid Seats, should contact the company they purchased their tickets from, the venue said.
Monmouth Beach School closed Monday due to flooding

The Monmouth Beach School will be closed tomorrow due to local flooding and travel hazards.
Fallen tree damages Martinsville home
Sept. 27, 12 p.m.
A large tree fell onto a home, garage and cars this morning in Martinsville.
Fire officials say they cut the cars out of the debris and reduced the hazard.
However, they were unable to completely remove the tree from the house due to potential wires and structural concerns.
The Martinsville Volunteer Fire Department released images of the scene.
They remind residents to be careful around trees and wires.
Numerous flights delayed, cancelled at Newark Liberty Int’l Airport

A total of 110 flights have been delayed and nine are cancelled at Newark Liberty International Airport.
Flights are delayed on average by 30 minutes.

Gov. Sherrill gives update on storm response

Gov. Mikie Sherrill said Sunday morning that severe dune loss has been reported in Brigantine and Atlantic City as the powerful nor'easter continues to impact New Jersey.
Sherrill said Surf City recorded winds of 74 mph, while some coastal communities received 3 inches of rain with more expected.
Another high tide Sunday night could bring additional flooding, Sherrill said. She also pointed to the high tide around 9 a.m. Monday as a concern for additional coastal flooding.
"I want to repeat: do not drive in closed or flooded roadways," Sherrill said.
Sherrill said nearly 180,000 customers had their power restored as of Sunday morning. She said the state Board of Public Utilities prepositioned utility crews ahead of the storm, with JCP&L and PSE&G having more than 3,000 employees working on restoration efforts.
Sherrill said the state Department of Environmental Protection will conduct a survey and damage assessment of New Jersey beaches when conditions are safe.
Boaters and marina operators were advised to contact the U.S. Coast Guard Navigation Center for information about marine closures.
Residents experiencing power outages should report them directly to their utility company rather than assuming the company is already aware of the outage, Sherrill said.
A state of emergency remains in effect for Atlantic, Burlington, Cape May, Cumberland, Middlesex, Monmouth, Ocean and Salem counties.

Crews continue restoration efforts amid power outages

JCP&L crews are working to restore power for more than 10,000 customers in New Jersey.
The agency reports that they’ve returned power to more than 60,000 residents so far.
PSEG says they restored power to more than 40,000. Around 1,000 customers are still awaiting help.
Possible shark spotted in Surf City floodwaters

A video from a News 12 viewer shows a possible shark sighting in the floodwaters of Surf City.
The viewer said his wife spotted it near their home on Saturday.
The two watched from their front porch as it appeared to swim by and turn into the driveway before heading back underwater.

Gov. Mikie Sherrill has declared a state of emergency for eight New Jersey counties ahead of this weekend's nor'easter storm.
The state of emergency goes into effect at 5 p.m. and impacts Atlantic, Burlington, Cape May, Cumberland, Middlesex, Monmouth, Ocean and Salem counties.
Sherrill says, "The storm is expected to bring strong winds, heavy rain, significant coastal flooding, and hazardous conditions along the coast and potentially into inland areas, with the most severe impacts expected to begin tonight and continue through Sunday."
