A nationwide jewelry theft ring that allegedly targeted stores in Connecticut, New York and other states has led to the extradition of two Colombian nationals, federal prosecutors said.
The men have been brought to the United States to face charges connected to the alleged scheme.
Prosecutors said the group targeted jewelry stores and kiosks in malls across several states between May 2023 and April 2024.
After businesses closed, the suspects allegedly broke into stores, sometimes cutting through walls to gain access.
Prosecutors said the group then smashed display cases and stole merchandise.
The total losses exceeded $4.4 million, according to federal prosecutors.
The case is continuing in federal court.
