Route 22 West remains reduced to one lane in Hillside as cleanup and road repairs continue following an overturned tanker truck.

The tanker overturned Monday afternoon and spilled cooking oil across the roadway.

NJDOT officials said the cooking oil and damage caused by the truck forced the closure of all westbound lanes for several hours.

Monday's coverage

One westbound lane reopened around 3:30 p.m. Monday and remained open Tuesday morning.

Officials said milling and paving work is needed to repair the roadway.

Weather permitting, NJDOT hopes to reopen all lanes sometime Tuesday morning.

It remains unclear what caused the tanker to overturn.

The condition of the driver has not been released.
