Bohemia man dies after boat capsizes at Captree State Park in Islip

Police say the man's body was recovered from underneath the vessel.

A 58-year-old boater drowned after his boat capsized Friday night at Captree State Park in Islip.

Family and friends tell News 12 the boater is Jon Lindskog. He grew up in Islip and lived in Bohemia with an island house at Sexton Island near Captree. Lindskog was a father of two.

State police, state parks police, Suffolk County Marine Patrol and the Coast Guard say they responded to the scene of a reported boating incident around 8:37 p.m.

The investigation revealed that the boater attempted to launch his 16-foot vessel, which was seen striking the docks repeatedly before capsizing.

His body was recovered from underneath the vessel. Officials say he was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital and pronounced dead.

No other details have been released. State police say the investigation is ongoing.
