Book Nook LI, the only Black-owned bookstore on Long Island, opened in early May - and has been embraced by the community from the start.
The shop has a wide variety of books, with a focus on Black authors.
"Everybody that comes in here tells us 'this is what we needed,'" owner Marlene Munn-Joseph told News 12. The store held a ribbon-cutting Wednesday and dozens of people stopped by to wish Munn-Joseph well and peruse the shelves.
Christina Anderson, a Westbury educator bought a bunch of books.
"I'm a big fan of literature, all types, and to have a Black-owned bookstore in Baldwin only 20 minutes from my house is amazing."
Book Nook LI is located on Grand Avenue in Baldwin.
