A 31-year-old Medford woman was arrested Saturday night after allegedly driving while intoxicated and crashing her vehicle into a wooded area with her two young sons inside, police said.

According to Suffolk police, Jesher Ribera-Barreto was traveling southbound on Horseblock Road near the intersection of Montauk Highway in Brookhaven at about 11:30 p.m. when she lost control of the vehicle, deviated from the roadway and crashed into the woods.

Ribera-Barreto and her children, ages 1 and 4, were taken to a local hospital for evaluation. Police said Ribera-Barreto and the 1-year-old were treated for minor injuries, while the 4-year-old was unharmed.

Both children were later released into the care of their father at the hospital.

Ribera-Barreto was charged with Leandra's Law, an automatic felony for aggravated driving while intoxicated with a child passenger under 15 years old. She also faces charges of driving while intoxicated and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child.
