The Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office has issued a warning about a rising number of scam calls.
The latest trend involves someone claiming to be a “Captain Watson” from the department.
The perpetrator goes on to tell the victim that there is a warrant out for their arrest, which can be satisfied if they purchase Walmart gift cards.
The sheriff’s office reminds the public to be cautious and never provide money to a potential scammer.
They posted a list of scam warning signs to their Facebook page.
Anyone who believes they may be a victim is urged to call 845-486-3800.
