Nassau police have reopened all roads after an hourslong investigation in a North Massapequa neighborhood on Monday.
According to police, officers responded to a home at 285 North Oak St. around 8:45 a.m. for a reported family disturbance. Investigators say one person was injured.
For most of the day, detectives and officers remained at the home. Investigators were seen examining the driveway, taking notes and gathering evidence to determine what happened.
Around 9 p.m., Nassau police towed a vehicle that had been parked in front of the home before clearing the scene.
Police have since left the neighborhood. All roads that were closed during the investigation have reopened, including North Oak Street and Magnolia Drive.
Neighbors said they were stunned by the large police presence in what they described as a normally quiet neighborhood.
“I woke up and looked outside, and all I saw were police officers, an ambulance and a crime scene unit. I had no idea what had happened. I went down the street, but everything was closed off. I was just shocked,” said neighbor Jake McCluskey.
“Honestly, it’s sad. You don’t want to ever hear someone is hurt. It sucks because it is so close to where you live, too,” said neighbor Jameson Walsh.
Nassau police say they are expected to provide an update during a news conference at police headquarters in Mineola at 10 a.m. Tuesday.
