A new 52,000-square-foot health center is expected to open in Longwood in the coming weeks, expanding access to care in The Bronx.
The facility, operated by Urban Health Plan, is located at 1095 Southern Blvd. and will serve as the organization’s newest site, building on its existing presence in the community.
“We have an existing practice, and this will allow us to expand and provide more services right in the community,” said Paloma Hernandez, president and CEO of Urban Health Plan.
The center will span multiple floors and focus primarily on specialty care, which Hernandez said is often difficult for patients to access.
“Having it here makes it unique,” she said. “While we offer some primary care, the focus is on specialty services.”
Urban Health Plan serves more than 90,000 patients annually, and officials say the new facility will help meet growing demand.
The site was built on the location of a 2008 fire that destroyed several businesses. It has since been redeveloped into a modern medical space equipped with updated technology.
“There was a commitment to remediate the property and create something new and innovative,” Hernandez said.
The health center is expected to open in May.
