An artificial intelligence data center under construction in Union County is drawing mixed reactions from residents.
The project is located at the Northeast Science and Technology Center, (NEST) in Kenilworth.
In 2025, a company called CoreWeave, a company that specializes in AI infrastructure, purchased a large portion of property on the campus to build an AI data center.
Despite the purchase taking place last year and receiving approval from the Kenilworth Borough Council, the project has largely flown under the radar until recently.

A representative for CoreWeave told officials at a Kenilworth Borough Council meeting that the project is expected to be completed within the next few months.
Some residents say they are concerned about having a data center built near their homes.
State officials have introduced legislation that would regulate how facilities like the Kenilworth center can source their power. The facility is also required to bring at least 100 jobs as part of a tax credit it received from the state last year.
