A Bronx family is still searching for justice months after a rideshare driver was gunned down in Mount Hope — and now, the man accused of pulling the trigger is reportedly out of custody overseas.

Police say 55-year-old Isaac Mbolo, an Uber driver, was shot and killed on the morning of Jan. 1 while heading home after a holiday shift. He was found inside his car on Morris Avenue with a gunshot wound to the head and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators identified 24-year-old Ehinel Troncoso Tejada as the suspect in what authorities described as a road-rage shooting. Officials say Tejada fled the country shortly after the killing.

He was later located and arrested in the Dominican Republic, but the New York Federation of Taxi Drivers says issues with extradition paperwork led to his release.

The development has sparked outrage among rideshare drivers across the Bronx.

“Why was he released? The guy killed somebody in New York,” said Fernando Mateo, of the New York Federation of Taxi Drivers. “If he would have murdered a politician or someone high-profile, they would have him here almost immediately.”

The organization says it does not understand why it has taken months to secure the suspect’s return to the United States.

The Bronx District Attorney’s Office told News 12 it is actively pursuing legal avenues to bring Tejada back to New York but declined to provide further details, citing concerns that releasing information could interfere with efforts to apprehend him.

Authorities have not said when or if the suspect will be taken back into custody.
