Low-cost rideshare program in Brentwood running out of funding

"Brentwood Go" is a unique rideshare service that's coming to a stop on Monday.
"We've been offering rides to people in the community just to get around," said Israel Toledo, a driver for Brentwood Go.
The electric car service offers rides to most places in Brentwood at a $2.50 cap, and sometimes for free — including to places like Pronto Long Island food bank and outreach center.
"A lot of people have transportation barriers on Long Island and this program really helped to ensure we're serving people that can get to Pronto and are not burdened financially by a car," said Keith Scott, CEO of Pronto Long Island.
Anahis Torres is a volunteer at Pronto and relies on Brentwood Go to get around town.
"Many people rely on this for their day-to-day activities, many people use it to go to the laundry to take their kids for school, many seniors use it," she said.
Brentwood Go started serving the community in 2024 and since then, the rideshare program has made nearly 50,000 pickups in the Brentwood area. The company hopes that funding will come through at the last minute to keep the program going.
The state agency funding Brentwood Go tells News 12 it awarded the short-term grants with the expectation the rideshare company would develop a self-sustaining, long-term operating model.
