A two-alarm house fire in Uniondale displaced a family of six Friday evening as flames tore through a home near Davis and Park avenues.

The Nassau County assistant chief fire marshal said the home was already engulfed in flames when crews arrived. The Uniondale Fire Department, located directly across the street, responded immediately.

Ally Johanson, who witnessed the fire, said her partner, a Uniondale firefighter, rushed in to help as the scene unfolded.

“It’s really sad. I feel really bad for the family. Hopefully the community can come together and help them out during this difficult time,” Johanson said.

Fire officials confirmed all residents made it out safely and no injuries were reported. Crews, however, faced challenges battling the stubborn fire, which took about 90 minutes to bring under control. Officials said part of the second floor collapsed during the response.

“Trying to find the seed of the fire was a difficulty. We also had a cave-in on the second floor,” said Uniondale Fire Department Chief George Martinez.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Nassau County Fire Marshal’s Office and the Arson/Bomb Squad.
