A Port Jefferson man is accused of trying to entice a minor for sexual activity.

Philip Schuler, 53, met up with a person he thought was a 13-year-old girl, federal prosecutors say.

Schuler is a part-time history professor at Suffolk County Community College.

A nonprofit tipped off the FBI, according to the criminal complaint.

The man was messaging an agent who was posing as a teen named "Chloe" about sex since October, the complaint says.

Schuler planned a meeting for Jan. 7 at a park in Valley Stream.

He told law enforcement he was in love with "Chloe" and wanted to see if she was real.

Court documents show the professor gave investigators a motel room key that he rented for the day.

College officials said Schuler has been placed on leave.

"Upon learning of these allegations, the adjunct part-time instructor was immediately placed on leave and will not be performing any instructional or other duties pending investigation," the college said in statement Tuesday.
