The Babylon location is expected to add a new option to an already diverse restaurant scene. Residents say the diner’s style will help it stand out.

A popular Nassau County diner is expanding east.

Whiskey Down Diner, known for its modern take on the classic diner experience, is opening a second location in Babylon Village. The Farmingdale-based restaurant plans to open the new spot later this fall.

“Our generation grew up in diners. We wanted to give it a modern twist, and that’s what we’ve done at Whiskey Down,” co-owner Alyson Kanaras said. “We had a really great response, and we’re excited to bring it to Babylon.”

The Babylon location is expected to add a new option to an already diverse restaurant scene. Residents say the diner’s style will help it stand out.

“We have so many different types of restaurants here, so this one will definitely be something different,” said Babylon resident Jane Schwenker.

Part of Whiskey Down’s modern approach includes a smaller, curated menu and the addition of alcohol, something not typically found at traditional local diners.

“The diner here is just breakfast and lunch, and there’s definitely no alcohol,” said Babylon resident Jeanne Gargiullo.

Some future customers are already familiar with the brand. Steve Laudon, who visited the original Farmingdale location about a year ago, says he’s looking forward to having one closer to home.

“I’ve been to the one in Farmingdale, I had a great meal,” Laudon said. “I think it’s great, and it’ll be a nice addition to the village.”

Local restaurant owners also see the expansion as a positive sign for Babylon’s dining scene.

“It’s going to bring in more people from towns all over the Island, so I’m looking forward to it opening,” said Ryan Barreiro, manager of Tricia’s Café.

At a time when several diners across Long Island have closed over the past year, Whiskey Down’s expansion stands out as a sign of continued demand for a refreshed take on a classic concept.

The new Whiskey Down Diner is slated at 175 E. Main St. Kanaras says construction is set to begin in two months.
