A Long Island high school student donated her Sweet 16 money to build a home.

Jazlene Ramos turned the birthday present into a gift that keeps on giving for a family in the Dominican Republic.

Ramos says she knew she wanted to make a difference when she turned 16 last summer.

Through Fundepaz, an organization that provides essential resources to developing countries, she was able to donate all of her Sweet 16 money, a total of $16,000, to build a house in the Dominican Republic.

Ramos tells News 12 that seeing as how her parents were both raised in single-parent homes, she wanted to specifically donate to a single parent in need.

The Lynbrook student is no stranger to charity.

With her school culture club, she makes bracelets and sends money to other countries. She hopes to instill these values onto others and serve as a guide.
