Christine Goodwin’s kidneys began failing when she was a teenager, while attending Sacred Heart Academy in Hempstead.

Her father came to the rescue and donated one of his kidneys to her.

The transplant happened on Nov. 16, 1989. She was just 15. Now, more than 35 years later, that kidney is failing and she is looking for a second donor.

“Hopefully, someone will hear this and will become my hero,” Christine Goodwin told News 12.

Goodwin has spent her professional career at her alma mater, Saint John’s University, where she is assistant provost for institutional research.

The school she loves so much is now wrapping its arms around her, with colleagues sharing her story in the hope she finds a donor.
