Strong Island Animal Rescue made a strange discovery after receiving a call from a homeowner on Wednesday.

The resident reported seeing an animal that appeared to be someone’s pet iguana in their backyard.

Rescuers at the scene found that it was actually a Tegu, a larger lizard species known to eat small birds, rodents, insects and vegetables.

The animal was frightened and behaved aggressively, according to the organization. However, rescuers were able to catch it with a net and return it to its caretaker.
