Demands grow for Town of Islip to terminate rifle range contract with DHS

There was an explosive meeting in the town of Islip Tuesday. It was over the town's current contract with the Department of Homeland Security, allowing ICE agents to use a local rifle range.
Islip officials say they've had signed agreements since the early 2000s to allow DHS, which ICE falls under, to use the town’s rifle range for training purposes.
But due to the increase of ICE enforcement in Islip and across Long Island, along with the fear many say it is creating, people in the community want that agreement to end.
Dozens packed Town Hall to make their voices heard.
“Islip town should not rent its facility to a group of individuals who seek out individuals who are law abiding not law breaking," said a resident during public comment.
One resident spoke in support of ICE.
“I voted for Trump, I want Trump, I want him to get rid of the illegal immigrants in this country," said a resident during the meeting.
Islip Town Councilman Jorge Guadrón introduced a resolution at the end of the meeting to discuss pausing the town's contract with ICE. That motion did not move forward Tuesday.
