A man accused of rape on Shelter Island was arrested at John F. Kennedy International Airport.

Shelter Island police say Manuel Ibanez Escalera is staying in the United States on a visa from Spain.

Town detectives arrested him alongside Homeland Security investigators.

The 23-year-old was ordered to surrender his passport.

He is being held on $150,000 bail.
