Nassau County District Attorney Anne Donnelly joined with other local officials Monday to call for an end to cashless bail for those who abuse animals.

The law changed as part of bail reform legislation in 2019.

New York state ranked 28th in the country in 2024 for it's animal protection laws.

State Sen. Patricia Canzoneri-Fitzpatrick (R-Malverne) co-sponsored a bill that would have made aggravated abused of an animal bail-eligible, however it was voted down by the codes committee in Albany earlier this month.
