Long island's new professional soccer team is now in countdown mode for opening day.

American Soccer Club New York will make its debut this Sunday at Hofstra University for their home opener this weekend.

The club held a launch party at the Cradle of Aviation to reveal their name and mascot – Fighting Tomcats -- which embodies the area's rich aviation history.

"It’s kind of the whole philosophy behind the team is long island-based and really to expand the game within the island,” said forward Brian Saramago. “And I think that’s kind of special especially for a kid like me growing up on Long Osland not having this opportunity back in the day and finally getting it now.”

Sunday's match starts at 7 p.m. at Captain’s Field.
