Third time was the charm for the Village of Hempstead.

Mayor Waylyn Hobbs says the village's third application for a Downtown Revitalization Grant from New York state has been granted with $10 million, which will be used to build up the area around Main Street.

It intends to construct new residences and businesses, with the hope of keeping people in Hempstead and creating new jobs in the process.

Local businesses spoke with News 12, saying they are excited about the idea of new customers and a potential boost to the local economy.
