Gov. Kathy Hochul announced Wednesday morning that Suffolk County will receive $150 million for infrastructure to connect the LIRR Ronkonkoma station to the proposed North Terminal at MacArthur Airport.

The governor said this marks a “transformation of how Long Islanders connect with one another and the rest of the world.”

Suffolk County Executive Ed Romaine announced the county will be committing $50 million as well.

The project would include road and parking improvements, as well as construct a pedestrian walkway between the airport and train station.

That walkway would connect to a proposed new terminal on the north side of the airport, which has been discussed by the Town of Islip board, but has not yet been finalized.

There is no timetable for the start or completion of the project.

Statement from Long Island Association President & CEO Matt Cohen:

“We have a generational opportunity to establish a preeminent transportation hub enhancing the plane to train connectivity of our region’s flourishing airport in Islip to the LIRR station with the highest ridership in Suffolk County, as Amtrak continues to assess bringing its service there and planning moves forward for a state-of-the-art convention center which altogether will be a lightning bolt that electrifies Long Island’s economy.”
