Stony Brook restaurant could reopen next weekend after early morning fire
Firefighters from six departments responded to the restaurant at 93 Main St.
The Town of Brookhaven Building Department deemed a Stony Brook restaurant too unsafe for anyone to be inside after an early morning fire but, according to a social media post, owners hope to reopen next weekend.
Firefighters worked for nearly three hours to contain the fire at Luca, an Italian restaurant located at 93 Main St.
“Luca draws traffic to the center,” Madison’s Niche owner Karen McAvoy said. “I mean it’s a beautiful restaurant so it’s just so unfortunate and such a shame.”
Crews battled not only chilly and icy conditions but the threat of the fire spreading from the restaurant to neighboring businesses that line the village center shopping area.
Officials said the fire began around 3 a.m.
Luca took over the location in 2022 after longtime and community favorite restaurant Pentimento closed the year before.
Officials on the scene said the fire tore through part of the roof on the back side of the restaurant. Owners called the damage "minimal" on social media.
The small business community said they are still reeling following horrible floods last August.
“For small business it’s difficult to stay in business and get the customers coming and going,” Jennifer Roman, who works in the village center, said. “It’s just really a devastating thing.”
No one was injured according to officials.
Six different fire departments responded.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
