Teen driver faces slew of charges in double fatal Southern State Parkway crash

New York State Police say a teen driver was impaired by drugs and faces numerous charges following a Southern State Parkway crash in North Massapequa that killed two of his passengers.
According to officials, the crash happened around 11 p.m. Sunday at Exit 30S for North Broadway.
The operator of the vehicle, Jaden Dsouza, 19, of College Point and front passenger Anthonie Marte, 23, of East Elmhurst, were extracted from the vehicle and taken to the hospital in serious condition.
Rear passengers, Hailey Dsouza, 21, and Crystal Alba-Figueroa, 23, were pronounced dead at the scene.
Jaden Dsouza was charged with one count of driving while ability impaired by drugs, manslaughter, vehicular manslaughter, assault and aggravated vehicular homicide.
Drivers said that the stretch of the parkway is notoriously bad for speeding.
"The exit is something a lot of people get used to over time and I could see how that could be a problem," one driver said.
Police say the car was traveling in and out of lanes at a high rate of speed before losing control and crashing into a tree on the shoulder.
The crash closed a mile stretch of the parkway for more than six hours before the road reopened around 5:30 a.m.
State police say one of the victims in the crash was the sister of the driver. He is expected to be arraigned at his hospital bedside on Tuesday.
