Bay Shore Schools says it reached 12 tentative settlements for alumni who allege they were sexually abused by a former teacher, according to a letter from the district superintendent.

Thomas Bernagozzi, 76, is accused of abusing 45 former students who came forward under the Child Victims Act.

Police arrested the former Bay Shore teacher in December 2023.

Bernagozzi has denied any wrongdoing.

The superintendent says the settlements have not been finalized and did not say how much they would cost.
