Parents in the Islip School District demanded answers at a school board meeting Monday night over the controversy surrounding Superintendent Dennis O’Hara.

At an Aug. 31 special meeting, the school board named Kathleen O’Callaghan acting superintendent. According to the school board, O’Hara has stepped aside.

O’Hara has been under fire for taking pictures of female lifeguards while working his summer job. O’Hara says the lifeguards were not in official uniform and he was trying to bring attention to the issue.

O’Hara later apologized in two letters to the community.

Officials with the school district say an investigation into the matter is underway. It’s not clear when that investigation will conclude.
