Summer isn’t going away quietly though and this last week of August has been proof of that.
The summer as a whole was warm, humid and we had a lot of rain at times – especially in the month of August.
Bridgeport is southwest Connecticut's climate site, so all stats listed here are coming from Sikorksy Airport.
August was a wet month, which brought over 5 inches of rain and really brought the season’s rainfall up to over 13 inches. The normal is almost 11 inches for the summer season. Last year though, Bridgeport had 13.13 inches of rain.
Let’s talk temperatures! There were no official heatwaves for the city this year, that’s when there are three days in a row of 90s. Bridgeport did see a total of seven 90+ degree days - and the last one was just this past week. Other parts of Fairfield County did see a heatwave or two. The average number of 90+ degree days for Bridgeport are 8.7, and last year there was only 3 during the summer, with one more in September.
This summer was a humid one for sure. Higher humidity levels keep temperatures down a touch, but it also creates higher heat indices. July was the most humid month, with dew point temperatures exceeding 70 degrees on several occasions.
Relief from the heat is right around the corner. Get your jackets ready, there is a nice fall feel on the way for the first week of September.
A normal high temperature range would be 78-79 degrees and the forecast calls for cooler numbers than that.
